Our local Posts are already in your community, and sometimes, they need a little help from the community. From planning community stand downs for homeless vets to visiting Jewish veterans in the hospital, our Posts need help from volunteers to help them provide services to veterans and military personnel. Here are just a few examples of ways you can help:
- Creating care packages for veterans in the hospital. Your local post can bring them to veterans in the hospital and in nursing homes around the country.
- Helping sponsor an Oneg Shabbat for Jewish troops in training. Some of our posts make quarterly trips to basic training and other military bases in order to host Oneg Shabbats for troops.
- Help flag Jewish military graves on Memorial Day. JWV posts get out to their local cemeteries during Memorial Day in order to clean the graves of our fallen heroes. They will place an American flag on the graves of any Jewish soldier. A lot of our posts will bring their local scouting troop, school, or synagogue to help clean the graves.
If you are interested in volunteering with JWV, please let us know at jwv@jwv.org! We are happy to put you in touch with a post in your local area. Thank you for helping us help veterans.
