SPEAKER: Buzz Alpert
TOPIC: When the Nazis Came to Skokie – Not
Buzz Alpert, a long time member of North Shore Post 29 and a Marine Reservist was a young activist in the local branch of the
Jewish Defense League when the Nationalist Socialist Party of American threatened to March in Skokie on Hitler’s birthday, April 20, 1979. . Failing several times before getting a permit there, they marched in Chicago and Berwyn, violently confronted by various groups. In 2013, the Illinois Holocaust Museum released a prize-winning video examining the personalities and complex legal and communal issues connected to the attempted Skokie march. We’ll show the entire 57 minute movie – Buzz will take Q & A afterwards.
