US Treasury Dept. Agency Aiding Iranian Finances

Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV) has expressed deep concern at the lack of speed and determination exhibited by the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets (OFAC). JWV is concerned that the agency does not properly enforce the US sanctions against Iran, as the terrorist regime in Tehran seeks to make a Eurobond offering of $500 million Euros. According to published reports, OFAC allowed Moody's bond rating service to rate the Iranian offering for three years before moving to stop it. The condemnation was issued by JWV National Commander Bernard Becker. "While the US is at war with terrorism, the agency responsible for enforcing US sanctions has ignored efforts by terrorist regimes to access the international finance market." Mr. Becker declared. "We encourage the Bush administration to use this as an opportunity to stay on message about the war on terror. Let the cowardly regimes that fund these murderers work harder for their financing; let the terrorists try to operate on a shoestring, not a big bankroll!" "Once their priorities have been straightened out, agencies like OFAC should be given all the resources they need," Mr. Becker concluded. "and then we can all feel safer as they do their jobs properly."

The Jewish War Veterans of the USA works to combat anti-Semitism and bigotry. JWV supports American youth through scouting, scholarships and anti-drug programs. The organization supports strong U.S.-Israeli relations by sponsoring an Allied Veterans' Missions to Israel each year. JWV is dedicated to America's veterans. Through its hospital, rehabilitation and veterans' service programs, JWV assists the Veterans' Service Offices in major cities throughout the country. JWV supports the underprivileged, homeless, and handicapped of our nation through a variety of civic betterment projects, including low-cost, federally subsidized senior citizens housing.
