JWV trips to Israel

The JWV Allied Veterans and Leadership Mission to Israel
October 7 - 17, 2010.

Join us for this exciting trip and participate in
TZEVET's 50th Anniversary event with
Israeli President Shimon Peres,
Israeli Minister of Defense, Ehud Barak,
and Israeli Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi.

Day 1: Thursday, Oct. 7:
Overnight non-stop flight to Israel from Newark, NJ.
Dinner, in-flight entertainment and breakfast on board.

Day 2: Friday, Oct. 8:
Morning arrival at Ben Gurion airport. Meet and assist by Aviatours team. Transfer to our Tel Aviv hotel. Check-in and relax. At noon you will be taken to the Carmel Market to see how Israelis buy their last minute fruits and vegetables just before Shabbat. This is a very colorful experience. We will also visit nearby Sheinkin Street, which is the Soho of Tel Aviv. Afterwards, we will board the bus and take a panoramic tour of the city and see the site of the assassination of Prime Minister Itzhak Rabin, and the Kirya - which houses the Ministry of Defense and the IDF headquarters. Upon return to our hotel, you can enjoy a walk on the Tel Aviv boardwalk.

Day 3: Saturday, Oct. 9:
Shabbat: A day of rest or join the optional tour to Jaffa. You can also watch a group of Israelis enjoying themselves performing Israeli folk dances on the boardwalk. Your guide will direct you as to place and time this will occur.
Dinner on your own.

Day 4: Sunday, Oct. 10:
Today we will visit the Independence Hall where David Ben Gurion announced the independence of Israel in 1948. We will than visit the Israeli Museum, depicting Itzhak Rabin's life as linked to the story of the State of Israel. Possible meeting with his daughter Dalia Rabin. Afternoon rest at our hotel in Tel Aviv. In the evening, we will participate in TZEVET's (IDF veterans) 50th Anniversary event with Israeli President Shimon Peres,
Israeli Minister of Defense, Ehud Barak, and Israeli Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi.
Dinner at the event.

Day 5: Monday, Oct. 11:
After breakfast, at 8:30 AM, IDF briefing about situtation in the middle east. 9:30 AM depart on our tour to Our first stop is Caesarea - the Roman port city built by King Herods. Continue to Haifa to see the magnificent Bahaii Gardens. Arrive at our Tiberias hotel. After dinner, enjoy a stroll on the Sea of Galilee boardwalk.

Day 6: Tuesday, Oct. 12:
Leadership Tour - Bus No. 1: Travel to Golan Heights and stop at Shalom Observation Point for a magnificent view of the Sea of Galilee, then visit the Katzrum Museum to see the story of Gamla. Continue to Safed – the center of Kabalah and Jewish Art. Return to our hotel for rest. In the afternoon, visit the House of Dona Gracia – a unique story of the expulsion of Jews from Spain. Dinner and overnight in Tiberias.
Allied Veterans - Bus No. 2: Depart from the hotel, travel to Golan Heights - stop at Shalom Observation Point for a magnificent view of the Sea of Galilee. You will visit the Katzrim Museum to see the story of the Gamla. Continue the day by taking a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee (if weather permits). In the middle of the sea we shut the engines and read the scriptures (Mark 6: 45 - 52). In this holy place we can visualize Him walking on the water. We dock near Capernaum to visit the synagogue where Jesus preached. Later, we will proceed to Tabgha - the site of the multiplication of the fish and bread and then Mount of Beatitudes. Afternoon trip to Nazareth, to visit the Church of Annunciation and Cana where the first miracle of water turning into wine took place. Couples who wish to renew their marriage vows can do so here.
Dinner and overnight in Tiberias.

Day 7: Wednesday, Oct. 13:
Drive to Jerusalem. On the way visit the 2nd World War Jewish Warrior museum at Latroun. Proceed to Kibbutz Ayalon to see a hidden ammunition factory that was operated during the British Mandate and recently discovered. Check in and rest at our Jerusalem hotel.
Dinner at our hotel.

Day 8: Thursday, Oct. 14:
We begin by visiting the Western Wall and the Chain of Generations. Meet at the Perimeter Barrier around Jerusalem for a briefing. We will enter the Old City, where we will visit the Herodian Quarter (the underground section of the Jewish Quarter). We will also visit Ammunition Hill-a national memorial site and a battle site from the 6 Day War. This is also the World Center of Jewish War Veterans (possible event).
Free evening and dinner on your own.

Day 9: Friday, Oct. 15:
Visit Yad Vashem - the new holocaust museum. Visit Mt. Hertzel to see the new memorial site. Visit the Way of the Cross and the Holy Sepulcher Church. Visit the Machne Yehuda Market, a unique place, just before it closes for Shabbat. Main group returns to the hotel for a rest.
Allied Veterans - Bus No. 2: Afternoon visit to Bethlehem-Church of the Nativity to see and touch the cave where Jesus was born.
Shabbat Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem .

Day 10: Saturday, Oct. 16:
Shabbat rest or join a panoramic tour to Massada and the Dead Sea, famous for its rich minerals.
Dinner at hotel.

Day 11: Sunday, Oct. 17:
Flight home. Arrive same day.
