Senator Patty Murray of Washington Named Recipient of JWVs 2006 Medal of Merit

Spring 2006

At its annual Congressional Reception on Wednesday, March 8, 2006, the Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV) presented its 2006 Medal of Merit as Legislator of the Year to Senator Patty Murray of Washington State for her ongoing efforts on behalf of the veterans of our country. The JWV holds its reception for the Congress each year and is pleased to honor those legislators who work especially hard to support the needs of our veterans and the necessity to ensure that they receive the benefits that have been promised to them. Past National Commander, Robert Zweiman, in introducing Senator Murray, noted that Senator Murray works to ensure veterans are "remembered - not only for what they've done, but for the injuries they may have sustained - not merely for what they have done in the field, but what they're doing within our society, and this is what makes her an advocate. She is someone whose voice will never be stilled, as long as there is a cause to fight for." The Medal of Merit was presented to Senator Murray by National Commander David Magidson. The Medal of Merit honors Murray "for her strong advocacy on behalf of those who served in the United States Armed Forces by her recognizing our nation's obligations to our veterans." The JWV was also honored during the course of the reception to be addressed by Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson, Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey, and past recipient of the Medal of Merit, Congresswoman Shelly Berkely of Nevada.
