Robert M. Zweiman Elected President of the National Museum of American Jewish Military History

Robert M. Zweiman of Fort Lee, NJ, was elected President of the National Museum of American Jewish Military History (NMAJMH) at the Board of Directors' meeting during the 112th Annual National Convention of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV) in Charleston, SC, on August 25, 2007.

The National Museum of American Jewish Military History documents and preserves the contributions of American Jews to the peace and freedom of the United States, educates the public concerning the courage, heroism and sacrifices made by Jewish Americans who served in the Armed Forces, and works to combat anti-Semitism.

The NMAJMH is located in Washington, DC, and will celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2008, and is currently planning an exhibit to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the JWV's 1933 protest march down Fifth Avenue in New York City against Nazi Germany.

Mr. Zweiman is a member of the Board of Directors of The Military Coalition, an organization of twenty-four military and veteran's organizations which represents the interests of the military community. He is a life member of the American Legion, AMVETS, DAV, NCOA, and VFW, in addition to the JWV.

Mr. Zweiman became a member of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America (JWV) in 1947, after having served in the United States Army in the Philippines. After discharge from the service, he completed his education at New York University, attaining his BS degree in Accounting, and his Juris Doctor degree in Law. As a lawyer, he was admitted as a sole practitioner in Federal courts and the courts of New Jersey and New York, and retired after 39 years of practice.

He was awarded the Jewish War Veteran Life Achievement Gold Medal of Merit by the 2003 National Convention, and served two separate terms as National Commander; 1981 to 1982, and 1996 to 1997. In addition, he was awarded the Vietnam Veterans of America Veteran Advocate of the Year in 2004.

Past National Commander (PNC) Zweiman served two prior years (1988-1990) as the President of the NMAJMH before being elected to his current term.

He has served since 1968 to date, as a member of its Executive Committee and as a JWV Policy Committee member. Bob was the National Centennial Chairman for JWV commemorating its 100 years of service in 1996 as America's oldest active national veteran's organization, and delivered the JWV's Host address on Veterans Day at Arlington National Cemetery in 1996.

He was Chairman of the JWV/NMI Coordinating Committee, JWV's National International Liaison Officer where he developed JWV's Allied Veterans Mission to Israel program, which is now in its twenty-third year. He created and developed JWV's direct mail program to provide funding for JWV programs. He developed the National Committee Teleconference program, the Invest in America program, and as the Editorial Fellow of the JWV Veteran Magazine for over 18 years, he has authored many of the JWV releases; has been the Conventions Program Coordinator for over 10 years implementing the programs for the NEC and the National Conventions; and has designed and coordinated Museum and Headquarter building renovations providing an additional 50% exhibit space, study center, seminar rooms and lunchroom.

As a representative from JWV, he has served on the Executive Committees of AIPAC, Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organization and he has been, and is presently a member of the Executive Committee of the Jewish Council of Public Affairs (JCPA), formally NJCRAC.

PNC Zweiman has served the Jewish War Veterans at every level of the organization - as Post Commander of North Hudson Post No. 76 in Union City, New Jersey from 1954 to1956, Hudson County Council, New Jersey Commander from 1960 to 1961, and the Department of New Jersey Commander from 1967 to 1968. He has served as a Post, County, Department and National Judge Advocate; still serves as Department of New Jersey Editor; JWV National Executive Committee Chairman; JWV National Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman; JWV National Resolutions Chairman; and Chairman of the National JWV/JWVA Standing Committee.

Bob resides with his wife Jeri, a retired Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
