National Commander Schulman Attends Swearing In

of Dr. James B. Peake as Secretary of Veterans Affairs

Winter 2007

Thursday, Dec. 20, 2008—National Commander Lawrence Schulman of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV) and JWV National Executive Director Herb Rosenbleeth attended this morning’s swearing in ceremonies for incoming Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake. The importance of the needs of the veterans’ community was underscored by the attendance of both President George W. Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney.

Commander Schulman was honored to represent the JWV on this occasion and pledged that the JWV will work with the Veterans Administration on the issues facing both the veterans that are returning now from service in Iraq and Afghanistan and those issues that continue to challenge the veterans of previous conflicts.

The JWV remains committed to securing for our veterans the benefits that they have earned through their service by working for mandatory funding for the VA. Commander Schulman looks forward to working with Secretary Peake on the issues that matter to our veterans, particularly in ensuring that all veterans receive the best possible health care through the VA.

According to Commander Schulman, “The JWV wishes Secretary Peake the best as he begins his work in this important position, and we look forward to a partnership with him to deliver the best care to our wounded warriors of all generations. Secretary Peake’s background as U.S. Army Surgeon General and as a wounded warrior himself gives him a unique perspective on the needs of the veterans’ community. The JWV pledges to him that we look forward to working together for all veterans.”
