JWV Supports Tax-Exempt Status for U.S. Troops in Israel

Winter 2003

The Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV) supports the passage of bill about to be introduced in Congress by Rep. William Janklow (R-SD), supporting the extension of tax-exempt status to U.S. troops currently stationed in Israel. Rep. Janklow attributes the lack of tax-exempt status for these troops at present to political reasons. Currently, troops serving in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, enjoy the tax-exempt status denied to troops now serving in Israel. The discrepancy results from the classification of troop deployment in Israel as a military exercise, rather than as preparation for a possible upcoming conflict. The JWV supports the extension of this benefit to all troops serving in the Middle East area. All U.S. troops serving in the Middle East and Gulf regions deserve to be treated fairly and equitably without regard to political maneuvering.
