JWV Supports Proposed Pentagon Rules to End Abusive Sales Practices on Bases

Spring 2005

The Jewish War Veterans of the USA, America's oldest active veterans' organization, strongly supports the new rules proposed by the Pentagon to end abusive sales practices on U.S. military bases both at home and abroad without awaiting Congressional legislation. While our servicemen and women are putting their lives on the line to guarantee freedom to all Americans, unscrupulous sales people are targeting them for scams costing them outrageous fees for services like insurance, check advances, and other financial services. The proposed new rules would forbid deceptive sales practices and usurious fees and enforce rules of fairness and accessibility to counseling services. Those who are defending our country must be protected from the predatory practices of those salespeople who are targeting them. We support the implementation of these rules as soon as possible and salute the Pentagon for not waiting for the passage of similar proposed legislation to protect our men and women in uniform from those who target them. Our servicemen and women protect us in a dangerous world from the enemies who would attack us—we must protect them from those who would do harm to them.
