JWV Supports Airline Decision to Rescind Baggage Charges for Service People

Summer 2008

At its recently concluded 113th annual convention, the Jewish War Veterans of the USA passed a resolution condemning the practice of many major airlines of charging soldiers going into combat excess luggage fees which could be reimbursed only by the filing of extra forms. Our soldiers going into a combat zone should not have to be dealing with filling out reimbursement forms at the same time as going into harm’s way.

The resolution reads as follows:

The JWV is pleased to announce that under pressure from the JWV and other veterans’ organizations, many of the major airlines have repealed these fees.

We must continue, however, to be vigilant in monitoring the airlines and other companies that deal with our troops to ensure that they are treated fairly and with the respect they deserve.
