JWV Praises Departing Secretary Tony Principi

Winter 2004

National Commander Lou Abramson of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV) today expressed the highest praise for departing VA Secretary Anthony J. Principi. "Tony was an outstanding leader of all veterans and a strong advocate and ally of those on active duty, veterans and their families and survivors," according to Commander Abramson. Secretary Principi was superbly qualified to be the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs--a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, a veteran of Vietnam, chief counsel and staff director for the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs, deputy VA Secretary, and acting VA Secretary from 1992-93. He leaves a proud legacy of public service to all of the veterans whom he has served over his long career. Secretary Principi will be sorely missed by the Veterans Service organizations and by all those whom he has served so ably by speaking their language in a direct and understandable fashion. He has honored JWV by addressing our conventions in Hartford (1989), San Diego (1990), and Jacksonville (2002). The JWV wishes Secretary Principi, his wonderful wife, Elizabeth, and their family, the very, very best in their future personal and professional lives. He will be remembered by the JWV for his stewardship of the VA's mission of service to all those who have served their nation. He was a Veteran's Veteran. We will miss him!!
