JWV ENDORSES CONGRESSIONAL CALL FOR U.S. TO BREAK OFF RELATIONS WITH ARAFAT ; PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY

Spring 2002

The Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV), has called on the Bush administration to break all ties with Yasser Arafat and the Palestinian Authority following the capture of the Palestinian ship Karine A with nearly 50 tons of armaments aboard, en route to the Gaza Strip. JWV National Commander Bernard Becker called for the break in relations saying, "The evidence is overwhelming that Arafat, the PA and the Iranians were behind this effort to arm more Palestinians to destroy Israel. How much more do we need to see? President Bush has made it clear- those who do not work with us to combat terrorism are against us. The US should break off its ties to Arafat now!" Commander Becker also commended Congress for its far-sighted resolution, passed last month, urging President Bush to suspend "all relations with Yasser Arafat and the Palestinian Authority unless the PA destroyed the infrastructure of Palestinian terror groups, pursued and arrested terrorists whose incarceration has been called for by Israel and takes all necessary steps to end the ongoing Palestinian terrorist campaign." The resolution passed in the House by a vote of 384 to 11; in the Senate it passed unanimously. "It is clear from the confession of the boat's captain that he and his crew are all members of Arafat's naval forces, operating under orders from one of Arafat's key people," Commander Becker noted. "The President says he will not distinguish between good and bad terrorists. Fine! Here's a terrorist! His name is Arafat. Dump him!
