JWV Condemns Terrorist Attacks in Mumbai and Joins in Mourning the Victims

December 2008

The Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV) joins with freedom-loving peoples everywhere in condemning the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai and in mourning the innocent victims of this attack.

"We are saddened by the loss of innocent lives, and we especially mourn the brutal deaths of Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife, Rivkah, who operated a home for the Jewish community of the city and welcomed visitors to enjoy the hospitality of Chabad House," said JWV National Commander Ira Novoselsky. Rabbi and Mrs. Holtzberg and the guests who were with them at that unfortunate moment have joined the long list of Jews who have been killed simply because of their religion.

These selfless souls were killed in cold blood in front of their 2-year-old son Moshe, who was rescued by the bravery of his Indian nanny, Sandra Samuel, risking her own life to save that of the little orphaned boy. Ms. Samuel has gone to Israel to care for him and has earned the title of "Righteous Gentile" that has been bestowed upon her by the Israeli government.

We hope that the nations of the world will work together to root out terrorist networks, such as those that have perpetrated these heinous crimes and will bring the guilty to justice and ensure that the peoples of the world can live free from the scourge of terrorist attacks.

The JWV pledges that it will do all in its power to help in the cause of peace in memory of the Holtzbergs and of all of the martyrs to the growing specter of terrorism.
