JWV Commends the Obama Administration for Launching New Online Veterans Employment Center

Spring 2014

Washington, DC – Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV) wholly commends the Obama Administration for the launching of an integrated employment tool designed to help connect servicemembers and veterans with civilian employers and civilian life.

The new Veterans Employment Center is the culmination of an interagency effort to consolidate the employment resources available to veterans, transitioning servicemembers, and their families.

The Veterans Employment Center is available at www.ebenefits.va.gov/ebenefits/jobs. Resources on the site include job opportunities, resume-builder, military skills translator, and career training resources.

As the Department of Defense prepares to reduce the size of the US Military, resources like The Veterans Employment Center are even more crucial to ensuring success for transitioning servicemembers and veterans.

This initiative must be expanded with more offerings throughout the national system, and must also seek to bring more private businesses onboard with real employment opportunities.

For the estimated 11-20 percent of OEF/OIF veterans living with PTSD, having simplified access to these kinds of personalized services is particularly important in making the transition back to civilian life. Working can be an important part of rediscovering one’s self identity. Having access to educational and career counseling is a vital component in helping treat PTSD as it shows the veteran that we all care and are willing to add a degree of discipline to coordinate their being.
