JWV CALLS ON CONGRESS TO STRONGLY RESPOND TO CHINESE "Congress Should Repeal MFN Status, Reverse WTO Entry" The Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV) has called upon Congress to take a strong position in response to China's illegal and unwarranted seizure of a U.S. surveillance plane and its 24 crew members. The call was issued by JWV National Commander Ronald Ziegler in a statement issued this morning from JWV's National Headquarters in Washington, DC.

"The Chinese government has demonstrated to the world how little it cares for the rule of law," Ziegler said. "Seizing the crew of the American plane following the collision caused by the pilot of a Chinese fighter jet, rather than offering assistance, was an irresponsible action. Congress should immediately move to repeal China's Most Favored Nation status. Additionally, the US should begin working to reverse China's acceptance into the World Trade Organization."

"Finally," Ziegler continued, "the US should begin at once to provide the Taiwanese government with the arms and equipment which they wish to purchase. Let the Chinese government know that whatever the reason for their unwise diplomatic posturing, they are not the only ones who can play hardball." JWV also called on its thousands of members across America to call their Representatives and Senators and encourage them to take a strong position on behalf of the 24 American Servicemen currently in Chinese custody.

JWV is dedicated to America's veterans. Through its hospital, rehabilitation and veterans' service programs, JWV assists the Veterans' Service Offices in major cities throughout the country. JWV supports the underprivileged, homeless, and handicapped of our nation through a variety of civic betterment projects, including low-cost, federally subsidized senior citizens housing. The Jewish War Veterans of the USA represents a proud tradition of patriotism and service to America. JWV is known as the "Patriotic Voice of American Jewry".
