JWV Applauds President’s Call for Increased US Volunteerism

Summer 2002

The Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV) strongly endorses President Bush's call for increased volunteer efforts in American society. The endorsement was announced by JWV National Commander Bernard Becker. According to National Commander Becker, JWV has been and remains in the forefront of national volunteer service programs. "We are greatly encouraged by the President's call, in his State of the Union address and other speeches last week, for a dramatic increase in volunteerism. Our members over the years have devoted tens of thousands of hours through the VA hospitals, Boy Scouts and many other local and national programs. Only those have put the time in can understand just how rewarding an effort it can be," Mr. Becker said. "With the President's proposed increases in the Peace Corps, Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, Citizen Corps and his new USA Freedom Corps, as well, there is ample opportunity for every American citizen to do his or her part in keeping America strong while helping out where help is needed.
