WASHINGTON, DC - The Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A., the oldest continuously active veterans organization in the United States, is proud to announce New Orleans, LA, as the site of its 109th Annual National Convention from August 8-14, 2004. JWV members from throughout the country will pour into the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel in the heart of the French Quarter to participate in annual workshops and meetings. On Tuesday, August 10, JWV will launch Veterans Invest in America, a nationwide initiative organized by PNC Robert M. Zweiman, assisting veteran stockholders in speaking out against the offshore outsourcing of vital American jobs. The workshop will focus on the impact of offshore outsourcing and what investors can do to halt the process. The JWV will celebrate the 350th Anniversary of Jewish Life in America on Wednesday, August 11, at a workshop, with a special presentation featuring several guest speakers. Catherine Kahn, Archivist for the Touro Infirmary will present a virtual tour of Jewish New Orleans, focusing on the city's historic landmarks and Jewish community. Bill Meneray, Assistant Library Dean for Special Collections at Tulane University will discuss the role of ethnic enclaves in Jewish communities and their reflection of mainstream America. Al Stein, Head of Louisiana Division of the New Orleans Public Library will discuss Jewish items in the Public Library's collection and available research materials. The 350th Anniversary Celebration will also include Iraq War veterans U.S. Army Spc. Joe Kashnow and Pfc. Mark Kauffman, who will speak on the importance of continuity of service to the nation. The convention will conclude Saturday, August 14 , with a banquet honoring current National Commander Paul Bernstein and the installation of the new National Commander, to be elected during the week.
