Jewish War Veterans of the USA Supports Israel’s Right to Defend Its Population against Attack

Fall 2012

Washington, DC – The Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV) opposes any international or Arab League ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas which does not result in a complete halt to all rocket fire from Gaza into Israel and does not eliminate the smuggling and storage of Iranian rockets and missiles into Gaza, which is for the benefit of Iran’s interest in the region and ultimate Iranian access into the Mediterranean Sea. This is a primary concern for America as evidenced by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s arrival in the region.

Recognizing that if the United States was being attacked by an outside terrorist force, we would not accept limitations on how this country would respond. If the United States fully defends against attacks, then it is inconceivable to expect Israel not to act strongly in self-defense against constant attacks on its soil by a terrorist organization carrying out Iranian and Islamic fundamentalist works and directions.

JWV applauds Israel’s approach to minimize civilian casualties during this conflict, especially when Hamas’ militants are deliberately firing rockets and missiles from Gaza’s civilian areas into regions with Israeli civilians. JWV opposes efforts to hamper Israel’s ability to effectively strike back against Hamas due to unjustified fears of collateral damage and targeted attacks.

Continued Israeli civilian destruction and death from rockets and missiles is not an acceptable form of truce – death by one will always result in destruction and death to the other in the battle for co-existence.

As an organization of American Jewish veterans, we express our solidarity with the IDF. In seeking a swift resolution, surrender by Israel is not an acceptable strategy.
