In Wake of Hurricane Sandy, Jewish War Veterans Calls for the Return of National Guard Troops from

Fall 2012

Washington, DC - As the Northeast continues to recover from the destruction of Hurricane Sandy, the Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV) calls for the immediate return of as many National Guard troops as possible from Afghanistan and elsewhere to aid the states affected by this disaster and others throughout our nation.

The National Guard has always been an extremely important component of disaster relief efforts in the US. At a time when many in the northeast continue to suffer with homes and communities made uninhabitable by the storm, the National Guard must be returned to where it is needed most - the United States.

Whenever disasters occur in the world, the international community looks to the United States for first responders and humanitarian help and support. It has become clear that the international community is not coming forward with aid in the face of this, and other disasters, currently impacting the United States.

The Jewish War Veterans has a question: where is the international community now that America faces a serious disaster? It is imperative that the United States is able to call on its National Guard troops to help and protect its citizens.

Since the troops are already scheduled for early return from Afghanistan to the United States by 2014, JWV believes that we should immediately send many of these troops home now to ensure proper aid is given to those devastated by Hurricane Sandy and other disasters throughout the United States.
