The Good Guys & The Bad Guys March in Lockstep
January 2010
The good guys and the bad guys both now belong to a group labeled the "Independents," and neither group wears a black hat. This re-created grouping has usurped the imagination of the voters who find themselves in a state of undefined confusion. It is founded on change for change's sake alone - sort of like anarchy without purpose or direction. As long as some one marches in lockstep with them, the Independents feel as though they are in control of something no matter how inane the result or the non-result.
Heartbreak has hit the United States - a Democrat won a congressional race in a Republican district - a Republican won a senatorial race in a Democratic state. It's now 59-41. There goes the magical "60!" At least one of the 41 hasn't wavered; he put a hold on over 70 Federal appointments so that he can steal that which he would otherwise have to deny to his fellow colleagues - an earmark which would be payable with taxpayer money to the profit of his state.
Add to that, a U.S. Supreme Court 5-4 majority ruling may open the flood-gates for what could emerge to be unlimited corporate funding of elections. The decision came from a majority who vowed, on their words of honor, to act only as a truly non-judicially active U.S. Supreme Court. Well, nobody said they are perfect - just Supreme.
Imagine the good riddance of election fund raising affairs and commercials from candidates who now may be able to directly solicit for their purchase by corporate sponsors - hell, it could become a buyers' market and be not merely restricted to millionaire candidates. They can wear slogan jackets like sportsmen. On the local level, we can look forward to the return of the company towns - hopefully the towns won't be outsourced to China or elsewhere.
What is more shocking to us is the realization that our "politicians" are more interested in keeping their jobs than in solving the issues needed for the growth of America's economy and way of living. Some of them are not seeking re-election and just retiring, while seeking to continue their public service by becoming lobbyists and thus avoid being part of a 10% unemployment rate without health insurance.
Both major parties go around seeking to snooker our citizens. To them 2010 and 2012 mean much more than veterans' entitlements or any quality of life issues - to them they mean a controlled indifference to anything other than their re-election. We seem to have come to a stage where few changes appear to make sense other than a few very refreshing changes, such as the Super Bowl.
While not all was negative, the Congress has passed an extension of our National Debt Limit by another trillion dollars or so. This will allow the Congress to continue getting fully paid even if the nation becomes sterilized by a filibuster or an inability to agree on a budget ,resulting in a close down. The problem is that our citizens may not realize the government is not functioning. The only media issue left will be blame, which can constantly be seen on TV, cable, the Internet, Facebook, Twitter and all of the others.
At this point, the only thing that continues to make us suckers is that some of us are like sheep protesting at rallies, emailing, text messaging, blogging on the Internet, calling into TV, cable, or radio talk shows making illogical comments, watching the members of both of the major political parties marching in lock step by voting either yes or mainly no without any genuine concern as to whether they individually should favor or oppose the issue, or whether the issue unfavorably affects our citizens.
Should we broadcast to our people to be Awake and Recognize that they are being screwed - even if they listen, they won't believe you? Independents and others have been so bewildered by outright lies, misstatements, ego enhancements, and by whatever other means are available to mislead the citizen. For example, the holding of rallies outside the Congress isn't going to help since, unless the Congress person is speaking at the rally, he/she is not watching, but is eating lunch - subsidized in part by taxpayer money. Better yet try having every citizen run a group rally outside the home of each and every Senator and Representative for weeks at a time - it may not help, but it can't hurt!
The new form of political stimulus being created is called "deceit" - the new form of a political bailout is the theft of our democracy through a Ponzi-styled electioneering. At least the people have become familiar with the format and the substance. Now to just recognize it, and how it is being spread, and by whom it is being spread ,and also how deep it is.
What can you do? Now whom do you have? Would you believe that each of us is left only with our own self and our immediate family? All alone if we allow it to continue to happen.
It doesn't have to happen - unless you let it, or if you enjoy it!!! Don't just rely on headlines or 6-second spot news or prejudged columnists. The Internet has made life too simple for us - I guess we just have to read below the surface and find out what an issue and its proposed solution really means.
A fascinating thought!!!
