Subject: United Nations: What’s it all about?
- JWV representative is member of DPI/NGO (Department of Public Information/Non-Governmental Organization) group of which there are 2300 members world-wide (approx. 230—most from Jewish organizations--show-up each Thursday at weekly meeting)
- Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony always held on last Monday in January
- Annual DPI/NGO Conference on Climate Change held for 3 days in early September each year
- Initiative on Linking Human Rights to Extreme Poverty works throughout the world including in North America, but has had to suspend work in Near East due to danger
- George Weinstein sees little leadership by US in United Nations
- If anyone wishes to attend NGO meetings or have a tour of the UN, please contact George Weinstein who will arrange
- Many positive steps taken by UN would not happen if it were not for the influence of predominantly Jewish NGO representatives—our presence shows the scope of JWV involvement in global issues
