Subject: Volunteering in Veterans Hospitals
- Volunteers are desperately needed at some clinics
- Now volunteers have to do more to be accepted as volunteers
- It makes it difficult to get volunteers
- We need to take photos of the volunteer work that we do in hospitals.
- This is an opportunity for publicity for JWV and raises our profile in the community
- Note: you must get permission from the patient before taking his or her photo
- Take patients out of the hospital and into the community. Put together outside events that they can look forward to.
- Give gifts at the hospitals around holiday times – don’t just make it Chanukah-centric, we want to make sure everyone is included.
- Remember: our mission is to take care of all patients, not just the Jewish ones.
- Several Posts are involved with local Stand Downs - in CT, for example, JWV is going to have a booth there and hand out packages of heavy socks. Socks go so fast because in the winter having socks is very important for the homeless community
