Subject: NEC Plans and Preparations

  • NEC is scheduled for February 13-17, 2013
  • The NEC is our legislative body – it is our opportunity to discuss our difficulties and our problems
  • In addition to us meeting together, this is an opportunity for us to get information for to pass back to our members at home
  • Hotel
    • Good response with the hotel rooms
    • Staff calling NEC members to make sure that everyone is properly registered
  • Wed and Thursday are Capitol Hill Action Days
    • Get your meetings set with your Congress people before you arrive in DC
  • Congressional Reception is scheduled for 5:30 on Wednesday
    • We’re honoring Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont. He’s the new Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs
    • Reception will be held in Cannon Building room 334
  • Thursday 2/14:
    • In the morning, we will hopefully have someone coming in to discuss US/Middle east policy. We’ve requested briefings from the State Dept and DoD
    • Event featuring representatives from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign is planned
      • It’s important that we have people attend both meetings and willing to ask questions
      • We must demonstrate that these issues are a real priority and concern for us
    • Policy Committee meeting is at 8PM – there will be a speaker
  • NEC meeting is on the 15th – there will be an agenda sent out prior to the meeting
  • Museum Board Meeting is scheduled for 2-4pm on 2/16
  • There will be a ceremony involving the 60th anniversary of the Korean War – let Nikki () know if you would like a DoD certificate
  • We are trying to have more programming during these meetings
    • Keep in mind, if you don’t participate and encourage others to join, then this new approach for NEC and Convention will not be effective
