Subject:Leadership - Meet Your Past National Commanders

  • Leadership means communication, which must come from the bottom up
  • Locally leadership means posts and departments must take responsibility, i.e., advertising in local newspapers both to publicize events and to gain visibility for the JWV
  • Must send press releases to local press; all areas have local weekly or monthly papers
  • Each post should have someone in charge of publicity to contact local media, including synagogue bulletins
  • Can coordinate with Allied Vets groups to get information into local press
  • Suggestion to coordinate local and national media advertising to maximize impact
  • Helpful to have specific PNC's mentor members
  • Leadership consists of taking charge and initiating action
  • Members who want to participate on National level must put themselves forward and let others know
  • Suggestion for leadership seminars at NEC and National Convention
  • Suggestion to expand Department Commanders' meetings at NEC and National to include leadership training
  • Primary mission of JWV is as a VSO serving veterans and soldiers
  • Important to give e-mail address to national to be on national e-mails and alerts
