Subject: Israel and Foreign Affairs

  • Allied Mission and JWV Leadership Mission for February of 2010 have been cancelled and will be rescheduled for later in the year:
  • Goldstone report for UN found both Israel and Hamas committed offenses but report was not balanced and remains controversial
  • Controversy over trying of 9/11 terrorists in civilian court in New York

    • Some fear trial will become forum for anti-Semitism
    • Call participants recommended the position that 9/11 events were not an act of war but were a crime and should correctly be tried in civilian court in the venue in which crime occurred so JWV shouldl not participate in any demonstrations against NY civilian trial
    • Attacks cannot be considered an act of war because war has not been officially declared
    • Those captured on battlefield will still be tried in military court

  • JWV National Commander participated in White House teleconference on Afghanistan
