National Convention: What Do You Expect?

Subject: National Convention: What Do You Expect?

  • Sunday Night Mystery Theater and sit-down dinner will be informal
  • Monday tour will leave from hotel at 8:30 AM and return between 3:30 and 4 PM and will cover harbor and historic district
  • On Tuesday, Aug. 21, JWV will place wreaths in memory of Charleston firefighters and at veterans monument; transportation is limited
  • Monday night museum reception will feature a film on the Jews of Charleston
  • Century Club event will take place at historic Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim synagogue and will consist of a buffet dinner and presentation on the Jewish history of Charleston
  • National Commander will have a private tour of the Citadel before the start of the convention
  • NEC on Tuesday; Grand opening Wednesday at noon; Ladies’ banquet Thursday night; Friday and Saturday Shabbat services; Saturday MuseumBoard of Directors’ meeting; Saturday night commander’s banquet
  • Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights will provide shuttle service from 5 to 10 in the evening to Market St. area in Charleston
  • Election for National Commander will be by roll-call vote
  • Discussion of role of National Commander
  • NEC carries out legislative function of the organization
  • Resolutions will be posted on JWV website as soon as they are finalized and voted upon by the membership after convention
  • NEC agenda is sent to voting members of the NEC 10 days in advance of session; only NEC members can vote, but a non-NEC member can speak before the group if he/she is sponsored by an NEC member
